Can someone please tell me how it is June already? Like, what? Wasn’t it just January? Or March? I swear that these days all you have to do is blink and Spring is over. Which is a bummer because Spring is possibly one of my favorite times of the year. Now we are in June and the weather is already in the triple digits.
But I didn’t let Spring go out without a bang. The fiance and I spent our Memorial Day weekend on Lake Tahoe and it was pure bliss. It had been so long since we were able to really spend some quality time together. It was so lovely being able to recharge and regroup. Can we go back yet? Real life just isn’t the business.
Our first morning there we got up and hiked to Gorilla Rock. Now this is a fairly easy hike with just a bit of incline. We have done it numerous times, we always go on this hike with my family. There is this little trail about halfway through that goes straight up the mountain. It’s pretty steep and we usually walk down it on our way back. Well silly little me forgot this last part and I said, “Look babe this is the shortcut we always take!” Chase went along with it, of course. We get about halfway up what feels like this straight up trail and I have to stop. Not like, catch your breath and then continue. It was like, “I had two very large cups of coffee with breakfast 45 minutes ago and now I might puke in public.” It was shameful. It took every bone in Chases body not to roll his eyes at me as I am sitting on a rock taking deep breaths and trying not to think about how embarrassing it would be to lose my breakfast in front of the other hikers passing us by….
Thankfully, I was able to regroup. I swore the rest of the way up that damn mountain that when we got back home I was starting back up at the gym. (It’s now Friday and I have yet to do any such thing.)
Here is proof that I actually made it to the top of that damn hill:
See the gorilla shaped rock in the lower, left-hand corner? Someone even climbed him and drew him an ear. So thoughtful. The hike down was far less eventful, we definitely did not take the shortcut back down. With my luck I would fallen down the rest of hill.
We decided to treat ourselves later that afternoon with drinks on the pier of the Hyatt Regency. There is a fun little bar out there and it’s great for people watching.
For example, we saw an older couple kayaking with their large poodle. Photo of the weekend for sure.
Most of the weekend was spent lying around, cooking, eating, and binge-watching “The 100” on Netflix. We can’t stop watching it. It’s one of those “must watch 3 episodes in a row” kind of show.
We had some friends come join us on Sunday evening, and to help with the hangovers we laid out on the beach for most of the day on Monday. There’s nothing the clear, blue waters of Lake Tahoe and a paddle board can’t fix.
There was not a single thing I would have changed about the weekend, except the part where we had to go home.
Oh, and that hill. Definitely would change that hill.
What fun things did you do over the holiday weekend?
