Iced Green Tea Latte

I bring you….another green sludge drink! Just kidding, it’s a delicious green tea latte. I’m one of those people who enjoy an afternoon pick-me-up, but sometimes coffee just isn’t what I’m feeling. Which is mostly because I drink at least 2 cups in the morning, so by time I need another caffeine fix I’m ready to switch it up. The caffeine addiction is real over here.

I love getting one of these bad boys at Starbucks, but I hate paying the money for it. I doubted myself at first, but after doing some research and giving it a try I realized how easy it was to make this drink myself. Like, super easy. This also means I can control what kind of milk I use and how much sugar I put in it. This is a win, win situation. I like to use almond milk because that is what is always in my fridge, but you can use cow’s milk, coconut milk, whatever milk really gets ya goin. For me, it’s all about the almond.

Matcha powder sounds fancy but it’s really not, it’s just the highest quality powdered green tea available. Okay that still sounds kind of fancy, but it is really good for you and really yummy and really easy to work with. I should be in marketing, right?

You can serve this drink hot, but since it’s the middle of August I went the iced route. I don’t give an exact amount of sugar because everyone likes it a little different. Also, it’s important to get a little of your almond milk warm before mixing because then the matcha powder will dissolve easily. Nothing ruins your green tea latte like clumps of green tea, bleh.

Iced Green Tea Latte

Recipe

  • 2 tsp matcha green tea powder
  • 1-2 tbsp sugar
  • almond milk
  • ice

Directions

Take a small bowl and put 1/4 cup almond milk in. Microwave for about 30 seconds, just until hot but not bubbling. Put in your matcha and sugar and whisk whisk whisk until everything is combined. If there are still clumps of matcha try adding in just a little bit more milk so it can fully dissolve.

Fill a tall cup halfway with ice and pour in your tea mixture, then fill the rest of your glass with cold almond milk. Now mix it up and enjoy!
